January Round-up

January seems to have come and gone with a flash, with it being a very busy month for many of my clients as they work towards upcoming events. Notable endeavors include one client poised for a British Amateur kickboxing title shot, preparations for the upcoming professional golf season, rigorous training for national swimming championships, and training to take on the challenging Grande Fondo Strade Bianche Cycling Sportive by a highly engaged corporate executive.

Equally noteworthy are the achievements of a growing cohort of my more mature clients, whose commitment to the approach of combining traditional strength training with Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) concepts has yielded remarkable gains in both strength and control.

However, the focal point of this blog update is the recent triumph of the girls from "There She Rows, who just over a week ago completed the epic journey rowing across the Atlantic Ocean, in an impressive 39 days. Following the updates from the girls along the way became part of my life over the last month or so, from watching the race updates on the tracking app, to the updates via the whatsapp group, and through their social media, the real magnitude of their task became clear. Having had the pleasure to work with the ladies in the buildup to the race, it gave me great pride to know that the breath retraining work we did in preparation for the race, came in useful during the event itself. One of the incredible team members Abbey said “The breath training with Andy was super useful during the race. It's really hard to fall asleep on the boat, so using some of the techniques for this helped massively. There were occasions of real high stress too, so understanding the impact our breath could have with dealing with these situations helped us navigate them to the best of our ability”

Finally, January has seen the confirmation of a new place of business for Prerequisite Performance, beginning in March, as well as a collaboration with Range Movement Clinic for the group mobility sessions I offer. Collaborating with Megan from Range, who is another FRC practitioner will further enhance the quality of experience my clients get when attending mobility classes. Mixing Megan's knowledge of the FRC system from a rehab and movement perspective, and mine from a strength training angle, all clients can rest assured the quality of the service they are receiving is the best it can possibly be.

Transitioning to the new premises at Gain Fitness, marks an exciting development for Prerequisite Performance. This expanded facility will enable the realisation of my holistic vision for health and performance services. Notably, this includes the introduction of a group environemnt for the one-on-one, eight-week breath retraining program I currently offer. As well as group conditioning classes, an open gym concept where individuals can execute their individual programs in a communal setting whilst under my guidance, and an extended group mobility timetable.

I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Jay from 'The Facility,' my current workplace. He has created an exceptional gym environment, with his passion and energy extremely rare within the industry. Anyone looking for a no nonsense training concept should check him out. I look forward to continued collaboration, particularly as we prepare to compete in the Hyrox Doubles this May in London.
